The New York Times on Reading Gaol, Featuring Our Artistic Director, Toby

Published: June 2, 2021

The profile of the campaign to Save Reading Gaol has been raised again with The New York Times releasing a feature on the situation, containing interviews with many of the key players.

Toby Davies, RABBLE’s Artistic Director was interviewed between rehearsals for The Last Abbot of Reading (which takes place outdoors at Reading Abbey – immediately beside the Gaol – between 11th June & 3rd July) and explained to the publication just what it’s like to be inside the historical space.

The feature follows the Ministry of Justice’s rejection of Reading Borough Council’s bid.

Of the article, Toby, who has been involved in the campaign since 2013, and most recently with Kate Winslet, said. “It just proves what this means to people. As local people, you sometimes lose perspective of how incredible something on your doorstep is. This is an opportunity to revolutionise Reading and it looks like the New York Times agree.”
